2012 East Coast Trip: Day 2 - D.C.

I apologize, at this rate I'm never going to get through our trip!

Day 2 started with a walk to Bethesda Bagels and cupcakes :) I mean, who doesn't like cupcakes for breakfast! Right across the street from the bagel place, was one of the D.C. Cupcake shops. Delicious!

Next, we got on the Metro and made our way down to the American History Smithsonian, the Archives and the White House!

As we were walking through the American History Museum, we saw a WWII Navy exhibit. It reminded me of my grandpa, and his stories he shares about his time in the Navy.

The night ended with a party for Ross and Shira before their big day! We headed over to Food and Wine Co., where we all watched the Michigan game. Unfortunately, the game did not have a positive outcome...

2012 East Coast Trip: Day 1 - D.C.

Overall, what a trip! We had SO much fun. David and I had been planning this trip for so long that we couldn't believe it was finally here. It originated when our good friend Ross was getting married out in D.C.. We thought, why not take a few days off and see the east coast! Our the stops included D.C., Baltimore, Gettysburg, New York and Boston. Thank you to all of our friends who suggested places to eat and things to see!

Day 1- Crazy early 6am flight. Landed, and we were on our way! First up, Smithsonians! Air and Space and Natural History.

David and I had both been to D.C. when we were younger, but not old enough to appreciate everything!....Including how much our parents had to either carry us around or pay attention so that we didn't get lost... :) I also now believe everyone's opinion that you cannot see everything in D.C. in one trip, not even multiple trips. We spent multiple hours the first day in these two museums.

I would say we did two main things during our trip, eat and walk :) We were either thinking about the next restaurant we were going to eat at or the next building we were going to walk to. Not a bad thing though! You will be hearing about all of the delicious restaurants we visited over our 10 day trip :) Our first one was Jaleo. This restaurant introduced David and I to something new, Tapas. We found throughout our trip that these types of restaurants were very popular. You would order many of these Tapas (small dishes), and then share them amongst yourselves. Jaleo's food was delicious, but it was a little on the expensive side.

A lot of people have asked what my favorite thing that I did on the trip was. It is really hard to say, but up high on the list is the Moonlight Monument tour we did the first night we were in D.C. Our tour guide was awesome, I swear he knew everything about everything. Not only did he give tours of D.C., he had quite the track record of jobs, including National Geographic writer, writer of a few books, worked in Moscow for the LA Times, worked for the Baltimore Times, covered the Supreme Court and Pentagon for newspapers, and the list goes on. Impressive! I won't go into detail about all of the things we saw, but I will show you some pictures with captions :) Included in the tour was Iwo Jima Memorial, FDR Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Memorial, Korean War Memorial, and the list goes on. If you ever go to D.C., I HIGHLY recommend going on a tour.
